Search Engine Optimization (SEO) With Blogger/Blogspot

In my previous post, I explain how you can help someone find your site on search engine by search engine listing. Let's dive into the use of keywords as obtainable in search engine optimization and many more.

Search engine optimization is something that is very important as far as online presence is essential.

You can use relevant keywords in the titles, text on your posts and pages. You can also direct search engines like google, yahoo, ask.com etc, which pages, posts, and links to ignore so they won’t show up in search results.

Below are steps towards optimizing your website.

1.       Add keywords to your posts and page titles

To improve the ranking of your posts and pages in searches, you can:

Include keywords that explain what the post or page is about, i.e a word that describe the content of your post. For instance, I am writing a post on Search Engine Optimization; my possible keywords will be SEO, Search, Optimization, Search Engines, rank, visible, etc. Users with any of these keywords will land in my blog post.

Also keep your titles around 60 characters long. A short and concise title will be more readable for users and won’t get cut off. Its best to make your title a little bit long; I didn’t say you should write a full sentence oo.

2.       Add headers

Tell search engines what your post is about with headers like H1, H2, H3 and more. In this case, the search engine crawl your posts and identify those unique headers whenever a search query is initiated. If there is a match between your header and the search query, your blog will definitely pulp up.

It’s pretty cool right? Just follow the steps bellow to get started.

1. Sign in to Blogger.
2. Click the blog you want to work on.
3. In the left menu, click Posts.
4. Choose the post you want to work on and click Edit.
5. Highlight the text you want to make into a header.
6. In the menu bar next to "Normal," click the Down arrow which displays several options.
7. Choose the type of heading you want and that’s all.

3.       Make your images searchable

To make your images searchable and accessible for visually impaired readers, you can add a short description of the image, or alt text, and a title.

1. Sign in to Blogger.
2. Click the blog you want to work on.
3. Add an image to your post and click it.
4. Choose Properties.
5. In the text box, add a long description in "alt" and a short description under "title."
6. Click Ok.

If you followed this to the end, then you are good to go with optimization.
